Summary
House is a club dance style where music and social interaction are essential. It was shaped in clubs in New York and Chicago since the early 80s and consists of footwork movement, jacking, grooves, floorwork, and spins. It was influenced by multiple dance genres such as breaking, salsa, jazz, and tap and took inspiration from other disciplines such as martial arts. Over the past decades, Housedance developed its foundational framework and specific culture. In this course, students learn the essentials of this foundational framework and implement it in interactive, social improvisation. Supported by video material the students will dive deeper in the history of club culture, key figures in the culture and point of views about the club culture nowadays.
