Summary
This ballet class will use ballet terminology and class structure to frame a practice that is founded in contemporary thinking and reasoning. The class stresses the awareness of the body is space: extension/elongation, folding/unfolding, expansion, use of clear directions and use of weight to move and project into the space. Organisation of the individual’s body is central, not adhering to an abstract image, but connecting and working with the student’s present physical state and capabilities. The body will be treated as a 3-dimensional organism in space, connecting to the musical timing and rhythm. The class is motivated by the question, Is the dancer developing systematic tools in order to prioritise, organise and perform complex movement patterns?
