Study guide

2020-2021

In professional training it is necessary that students learn to work increasingly independently as the course progresses, since they’ll need to develop a self-supportive work attitude. The teachers and team therefore progressively adopt a more supervisory and coaching approach throughout the course years.

Although the study load remains the same, the relation between the number of face-to-face instruction hours/courses and self-study hours changes. Face-to-face instruction decrease gradually as the study programme progresses while the number of self-study hours (and student independence) increases (especially from 3rd year onwards).

This is how the hours are in principle distributed (the block lengths may vary +/- 1 week per particular calendar year and can affect e.g. the amount of structural self-study weeks designated for creation in one block or face-to-face hours in another block):

1st study year
Face to Face: 1010 hours (Blocks 1-4) + 120 hours (Block 5)
Self-study structural: 90 hours studio creation (Block 5) + 50 hours performance week (Block 5) + 50 hours (crewing).
Self-study own distribution: 360 hours (Blocks 1-4 reading, writing, own research and creation).

2nd study year
Face to Face: 870 hours (Blocks 1,2,3,5) + 90 (Block 4)
Self-study structural: 90 hours studio creation (Block 4) + 50 hours performance week (Block 4) + 50 hours (crewing).
Self-study own distribution: 530 hours (Blocks 1-5 reading, writing, own research and creation).

3rd study year
Face to Face: 600 (Blocks 1-5)
Self-study structural: 600 (Blocks 1-5) [2x performance weeks, 3x crewing]
Self-study own distribution: 480

4th study year
Face to Face: 200
Self-study structural: 400 (stage report, performance proposal, thesis, Performance preparation (PR texts, curatorial decisions, etc), Performances weeks)
Self-study own distribution: 1080

The regular courses and face-to-face hours are scheduled between 09.15 in the morning and 17.00 in the afternoon. During performance period’s different schedules apply as a certain amount of activity takes place in the evening.
