APPENDIX
Assignments-research-self-study

1. A.T. resources
3 articles by Pedro de Alcantara - 'Inhibition' and  'Directions' and 'Action'
Reading the articles in the course of the year and answering questions related to the content of the article. One or two reflexive questions related to recognising personal habits that impede coordination of mind and body in relation to dance work and to identify and applying the strategies to improve their use for effective practice.

Written assignments about their own development linked to the material worked on in the classes and the literature they are given to read. Additional learning includes anatomy, study of Alexander literature and research by scholars of the Alexander Technique and related fields.

2. Research Project. Practical assignments in class when working on their own related to the written and practical material we worked on. In some cases reflecting on their experience and describing it in words and writing it down.

3.'End Evaluation'
Progress over the years, range of personal issues addressed in and outside classes and originality of thought and depth of knowledge of the AT and its application in dance and daily life.

Ways of teaching

  1. The whole group working on concepts and practices introduced and demonstrated by the teachers that expands the awareness of the functioning of the nervous system, muscular system and skeletal system.
  2. In small groups working on a theme with individual attention from the teachers.
  3. Individual turns. In the lesson the teacher instructs the student — with verbal and manual guidance — to approach movement differently,  recognizing habit patterns that may be interfering with ease and flexibility and learning how to discontinue them.
  4. Self study during class and outside the class.
