Language
The course is given in English. Students are encouraged to learn some Dutch. As part of the introduction weeks, students are taken on an excursion through Amsterdam with the aim of giving them insight into the beautiful and historic city of Amsterdam.
Study year structure
The academic year consists of 40 weeks. During the first two training weeks, at the beginning of the school year, there are technique lessons as well as lessons on more general topics such as dance & health. A calendar is created for each academic year containing the dates of presentations and performances, workshops, exams, etc.
Study load
The study load of the course amounts to an average of approximately 40 hours per week; it consists of group instruction and self-study hours during which the student is expected to study independently. The Dutch National Ballet Academy tries to distribute the study load as best as possible over the academic year. However, there may be a temporary increased study load, especially during implementation periods. The study load during an internship also depends on the dance company to which the student is seconded and the task assigned to him there. You may be asked to perform during the school holidays.
Instruction hours
In general, school days may start at 8:30 am and end at 6:00 pm with regular breaks. Students are often required to attend performances or participate in rehearsals and presentations in the evenings and/or weekends.
