The SNDO has built up an international reputation and attracts students from different geographies and contexts. The staff and (guest-) teachers are predominantly international and the courses are taught in English.

The international aspect is an important issue. The education recognizes that every context has its own tendencies and aesthetics and takes this into consideration in following the interest and research of a student.

The school maintains a large number of international contacts and invites other schools and curators regularly to follow the students programmes and performances. The school attempts regular exchange programmes with foreign institutions such as HZT Berlin or CuP Giessen.
