Education that focuses on dance composition and dance personality involves the development of a personal dance idiom, gaining a sense of awareness for  composition in space and time, learning to view and analyse each other's work, understanding how to give and receive feedback, increasing one's own expressive capabilities, dealing with dramatic elements and making effective use of one’s voice. Students learn to apply these aspects as part of their own stage persona and in this way develop a 'dance personality'. The development of such skills contributes to enhancing a student’s capacity for interpretation, how he/she presents movement, artistic insight and the ability to collaborate with choreographers. To establish a sound foundation for these competencies throughout their study, students receive lessons in composition, (contact) improvisation, partnerwork, movement analysis, movement research, physical theatre, drama, etc.
