The competencies of ECD are derived from the competencies as formulated in the national educational profile. They are specified towards the goals of the ECD programme. The behavioural indicators are also specified for the ECD.

Competencies Expanded Contemporary Dance

1) Technical and expressive skills
The graduate acquires a broad range of instrumental and expressive skills grounded in their embodied understanding of anatomic, somatic, artistic and socio-cultural dimensions of dance, movement and body in order to develop a personal practice and vision that they apply within a (co)creative choreographic process.

1.1. The graduate demonstrates a nuanced and innovative use of their personal possibilities through use of fundamental motor and expressive principles.
1.2.The graduate has an embodied understanding of diverse movement vocabularies and is able to apply the fundamental principles of movement to create a nuanced and personal expression of those vocabularies. 1.3.The graduate has a developed awareness of their body and its multi-layered physical and expressive potential and uses that understanding in developing and interpreting dance and performance material.
1.4. The graduate is able to recognise and acquire the specific skill sets of different dance styles and body practices and transpose them to other styles, vocabularies and body practices.
1.5.The graduate is capable of developing their own movement and performing style.
1.6. The graduate is able to critically analyse and creatively develop their physicality in relation to social and cultural determinations and expressions as well as evolving artistic concepts.
1.7. The graduate is able to create new material based on different physicalities, body practices and dance vocabularies in the context of their social, cultural and artistic history.
1.8. The graduate demonstrates an embodied understanding of the anatomical, physiological and perceptive potentials of their body in order to develop efficiency, autonomy and self-care in the context of their artistic (and personal) development.

2) Performing and creative skills
The graduate understands and applies various theatre and performing techniques in order to give meaning to choreographic work, and to build a meaningful relationship with an audience.

2.1. The graduate is able to create material by translating internal and external input into visible action.
2.2 The graduate makes creative use of a broad range of expressive tools in the development and/or interpretation of material, the creation of a role, or the fulfilment of an artistic vision.
2.3 The graduate understands both abstract and material dimensions of performance and is able to propose and work on different layers of performative meaning to shape material, create a role or fulfil an artistic vision, in a creation process and performance.
2.4 The graduate is able to shape and interpret material, create of a role and perform a piece through embodied understanding of different performance genre and their artistic, cultural and historical specificity.
2.5 The graduate is able to shape and interpret material, create of a role and perform a piece through their understanding of a choreographic concept, composition and dramaturgical structures of a performance.
2.6 The graduate uses a broad range of compositional devises (choreographic, improvisational, narrative, musical etc.) in order to shape material, create a role and fulfil an artistic vision.
2.7 The graduate is able to create and maintain a meaningful relation to the artistic vision, their own material and to the audience through the skillful use of performing tools (focus, projection, gaze, attention, imagination, visualisation).

3) Reflective ability
Through research, reflection and applied theoretical knowledge, the graduate gains understanding about how they function as a professional and can use such insights in an artistic and social context.

3.1 The graduate has gained insight in their talents and potential and reflects on their personal development in relation to their vision and work.
3.2 The graduate has an investigative attitude and can undertake (practice-oriented) research.
3.3 The graduate is able to have a supportive and a constructive critical view of the development of their personal artistic vision and working methods and that of others with regard to its intention, artistic value and public perception.
3.4 The graduate can employ the knowledge of critical and theoretical tools as well as artistic concepts in the development and/or interpretation of material, the creation of a role, the fulfilment of an artistic vision, or development of their personal dance practice and artistic vision.
3.5 The graduate is able to analyse and position their personal artistic development and their dance practice in relation to artistic, social, (inter)cultural, political and economic processes.
3.6. The graduate assimilates knowledge of different art disciplines and cultural languages in their development as a dance artist and is able to use them creatively and with critical awareness.

4) Collaborative ability
In keeping with their goals within the structure of the school  the graduate contributes constructively to the realisation of an artistic product or process and to an inspiring working environment.

4.1 The graduate realises their own artistic goals in coordination with others.
4.2 The graduate is strategic, flexible and respectful with regard to the different roles, responsibilities, interests and qualities that play a part in an artistic collaboration.
4.3 The graduate is able to engage in the exchange of ideas and works on elaborating and realising a (common) artistic goal and vision in a process.
4.4 The graduate offers and accepts feedback in a constructive way.
4.5 The graduate is open to new information,  is able to in take more than one perspective, listens and tries to adapt their understanding of a situation and other perspectives in an intercultural, diverse working community.  

5) Communication Abilities
The graduate is able to interact effectively within a wide range of professional contexts.

5.1 The graduate communicates purposefully within an interdisciplinary, intercultural and international work environment.
5.2 The graduate can articulate and physically and verbally express their artistic identity, ideas, ambitions and qualities to parties in and outside the artistic process.
5.3 The graduate actively seeks to generate publicity and/or opportunities for their work.
5.4 The graduate asserts their professional needs and values in an adequate way.

6) Potential for Sustainability, Growth and Innovation
The graduate has the ability to constantly develop and deepen their artistic practice and way of working, is caring and respectful towards themselves and others and thereby contributes to the development and improvements of their professional field and society.

6.1 The graduate actively adapts their physical, performing and collaborative practice in response to and in support of their developing personal and artistic goals and in defining their position in the professional field.
6.2 The graduate is open to ideas and research and acquires new knowledge, insights and skills so they can continue to develop themselves and contribute to the development of their artistic field.
6.3 The graduate identifies links between cultural and social developments and expressions and uses their findings to contribute to their artistic field and society.
6.4 The graduate develops the capacity to understand their fluctuating physical and mental potentials and continues to learn how to deal with them in a respectful and sustainable way.

7.2 The graduate develops their own manner of working and is able to oversee different components and phases of the work process.
