Music theory / rhythmic education
During all study years, students follow classes in dance-oriented rhythmic education and music theory. After all, it is important for dancers to have knowledge and insight in all facets of twentieth century music; to be able to recognize and create different rhythms and to understand scores. The students conclude this subject by creating and designing their own music project, which they present to their fellow students and teacher.

Dance history / dance theory and philosophy
During dance history / dance theory and philosophy lessons, students develop a sense of perspective regarding theatre dance and a dancing career. The dance history teacher explains developments in the art of dance and teaches students how to recognize and analyse styles. When writing his/her thesis on dance history and theory, a student is expected to conduct independent research into a subject of his/her choice. During dance dialogue lessons, the dance profession and dance is placed in an artistic and social context. Among other things, the lessons deal with verbalizing ideas regarding dance and discussing the position of dance in a broader socio-cultural context. Students give presentations about socio-cultural themes they have researched that relate to the art of dance.

Health and performance
All first-year students follow a series of lessons on dance health. They learn about the balance between load (the physical demands made of a dancer) and load capacity (the maximum physical capability of a dancer). Attention is devoted to anatomy and injury prevention, first aid, smart training, nutrition and the influence of lifestyle on dance performance. The modules students follow focus on knowledge, insight and practical skills. In the second year, students research a physical theme of their own choice and write a short thesis. After being positively assessed, the student presents his/her thesis to the teacher and his/her fellow students.

Teachers use a variety of teaching methods that include communicating with students in a workgroup context, giving demonstrations and entering into discussions. Students also undertake self-study, write papers and give presentations.
