Summary
Taking the early works from the 1990's by Andrea Leine and Hariono Roebana, as a focus and a point of departure, the course will trace the broader context of the work of a whole generation of choreographers in the 90ies, shaping the practice of Dutch stage dance. Ranging from German, American and French influences on a rather new and experimental artistic practice in post-second-world-war Holland, to questions around the anti-representational aesthetics of the first generations of choreographers, the relation of Dutch stage dance to emancipation, popular culture and TV, it also explores the clear resistance to conceptual and post-dramatic theatre dance and the status of expressionism and identity. The notion of the political body, being shaped through interdisciplinary and intercultural practices, in a mediatised world will be one of the concepts discussed through case studies.
